Gucci and Saint Laurent struggle to meet Kering's sustainability goals
The luxury fashion industry is facing pressure from consumers to curb the environmental impact of its rapid growth and heavily polluting supply chain. But at the same time, it's still trying to sell a dream of excess and indulgence via attention-grabbing, not-so-planet-friendly events. And while Kering has become very vocal about its commitment to sustainability, it's top-preforming luxury brands are struggling to live up these green goals: A majority of Gucci's leather is still made with potentially toxic chromium, and Saint Laurent had a beach-side runway show in Malibu this summer that violated a host of local environmental regulations. {Business of Fashion}

Investors are concerned about upcoming tariffs on Chinese imports and a potential recession, which could ruin retailers that are already struggling with declining mall traffic and fierce online competition. Analysts have a more optimistic view of the economy and say these fears are premature — especially if retailers take steps to protect themselves. One way retailers can mitigate the impact of rising import costs is to order merchandise early so it arrives before the tariffs kick in. {Business of Fashion}
