Must-see sports moments of the week: Thai coach Kiatisuk breaks down

There were plenty of eye-catching sporting moments from the week past, from a stunning turnaround in form by the Thai national football team to a mannequin challenge NBA-style. Yahoo Singapore picks out a selection.

1. Thailand’s football coach Kiatisuk Senamuang breaks down after guiding his team to a 2-2 draw against Australia

Thailand were bottom of the group with four defeats from four matches heading into the match against Australia in the final round of the qualifiers.Thus, the draw mattered little as the team have already fallen short of their goal to be the first Southeast Asia country to make the World Cup finals.

But the 2-2 draw in the final round of the qualifiers against the Socceroos was a massive boost to a nation still in mourning after the recent death of King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

The War Elephants even led the Asian champions 2-1 at one stage. Given the sombre mood of the Thai people since the King’s passing on 13 October, and it is understandable why the Thai coach Kiatisuk Senamuang broke down half-way through a live interview on TV after the match.

2. Two blocks lead to Steph Curry’s three

It is no secret that the Golden State Warriors are lethal when they are on the offensive, especially when it comes to their three-point shooting. But in this sequence against the Phoenix Suns, they proved they have some awesome defensive chops as well.

First, rookie guard Patrick McCaw blocked Devin Booker’s layup attempt which led to a Warriors fast-break. Andre Iguodala failed to convert his basket and immediately, the Suns regained the ball and launched a pass down the court to Booker for an easy dunk.

However, Kevin Durant came out of nowhere to produce a huge swat off the backboard that eventually resulted in a Stephen Curry three-pointer from deep. It certainly looks like the Warriors are unbeatable at both ends of the court.

3. Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Edin Dzeko sent off for the weirdest reason ever

Usually a player would be sent off for laying hands on his opponent or committing a vicious foul.

But on Sunday, in a European Group H World Cup qualifier between Edin Dzeko’s country and Greece, the striker was sent off for one of the weirdest reasons ever.

Tussling for the ball with Greek defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos, Dzeko was pushed onto the ground and earned a foul. Papadopoulos stood over him and snatched the ball out of Dzeko’s arms, prompting the latter to pull down his shorts to reveal his undergarments.

That sparked a scuffle between both teams and the referee eventually showed Dzeko a second yellow (and a straight red to Papadopoulos), which puzzled the former Manchester City player.

4. Cleveland Cavaliers’ mannequin challenge at the White House

The mannequin challenge has taken the world of sports by storm, with a number of sports team taking time out to post their rendition of it on social media.

But while most are taken inside the dressing rooms or on the training ground, the Cleveland Cavaliers did it at the White House during their visit as NBA champions.

LeBron James and Co. took the opportunity to invite Michelle Obama to join the challenge, and the First Lady gamely accepted and participated.
