May 2—KNOXVILLE — Playing in tough conditions at Pine Knoll Country Club, PCM's boys golf team had a tough day during the Knoxville Invitational on Saturday.

The Mustangs finished sixth in the seven-team field after shooting a 373.

Newton (341) edged Knoxville (342) for the team title and Grinnell (345) finished third. The rest of the field included Albia (353), Pella (355) and Pella Christian (402).

"It was not our best day," PCM boys golf coach Mike Cardin said. "It was very tough playing conditions and we just didn't keep our heads the way we needed to. We have good chances on (May 4) if we can bounce back."

Andrew Mitchell led PCM with an 85. Gatlin Boell fired a 91, Brayden Berger carded a 98 and Grant Van Veen had a 99 for the final counting score. Gabe Lanphier (100) and Grant Landgrebe (101) both had non-counting scores for the Mustangs.

Newton's Ethan Walker won medalist honors with a 71. Pella's Will Simpson shot a 76 to claim runner-up medalist.
