Mustang crashes into crowd Friday at Lamborghini meetup on Clark Road

SARASOTA – A dark late-model Ford Mustang veered out of control into the crowd attending a Lamborghini After Hours event Friday evening. Videos of the incident have been widely published on social media.

A video posted on YouTube by Ike Yoder shows several cars passing by on Clark Road, then, at the 5:47 mark, a Mustang comes into view and the camera follows the vehicle as it travels off the road and into the crowd, as well as the aftermath, with people converging on the car, capturing the event with cell phone cameras.

Yoder could not be reached for more details about his video.

A Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman said via text Sunday that it was not known whether a report on the incident had been completed and more information was not available.

According to published reports on the web from SNNTV.COM and WFLA.com, the Sheriff’s Office received calls at around 7:39 p.m. While citations have been issued the incident is still under investigation.

The Lamborghini After Hours Event is a regular occurrence at the host dealership, Lamborghini Sarasota, which is west of Honore Avenue, in the 5100 block of Clark Road.

According to the After Hours Facebook page, the event was scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Owners of all model cars were encouraged to attend and asked to remain on the dealership property and not stand in the median to watch vehicles leave.

The notice asked for attendees to be respectful and specifically asked for “no revving burnouts, HIGH-SPEED FLYBYS (all caps from the media post) or activities that might be considered dangerous or disrespectful to others.”

Staff was also on the premises to direct traffic to parking spaces.

According to the report from SNN reporter Annette Gutierrez, several social media posts showed cars speeding by the crowd and one video shows a black Mustang veer off course and into the crowd.

Both web reports said the Sheriff’s Office had not been informed of any injuries, but at least one person believed to be in attendance later posted a photo on social media with their ankle in a walking boot.
