Mustang resident endows mathematics scholarship at SWOSU

Southwestern Oklahoma State University has announced the creation of the Gerry & Phyllis Church Scholarship fund.

The fund has been endowed by Gerald “Gerry” Church, of Mustang, and represents SWOSU’s first-ever scholarship endowment created to benefit the SWOSU Department of Mathematics.

Church is a native of Dighton, Kansas. He earned a Bachelor of Science from Kansas State University and Master of Arts from Arizona State University. He completed his education from Oklahoma State University with a Doctor of Education in 1973. Church served as a professor of mathematics at SWOSU from 1966-2000. Church now resides in Mustang. Church and his late wife, Phyllis, enjoyed country and western dancing and traveling into retirement.

“This gift from Dr. Church will have a lasting impact on students for generations to come. Never has a scholarship been established here at SWOSU specifically to benefit mathematics. We are truly grateful to Dr. Church for this historic investment in our students,” said Tom McNamara, chair of the SWOSU Mathematics Department.
