Mustangs win PCM Boys Track Classic

May 1—MONROE — PCM's boys track and field team won four relays, scored double points in nine individual events and claimed the team championship at the PCM Boys Track Classic on Thursday.

The Mustangs recorded five wins in all and scored 173 points at the top of the standings. Pleasantville was closely behind with 160.

The rest of the eight-team field included Knoxville (115), Chariton (88), North Mahaska (65), PCM JV (41), Melcher-Dallas (41) and Wayne (25).

The lone individual win came in the high jump where Gatlin Boell's leap of 5 feet, 10 inches claimed the gold medal. Andrew Mitchell was third with a jump of 5-4.

Mitchell also was part of three relay wins, leading off in the 4x100, 4x200 and sprint medley relays.

The 4x100 team of Mitchell, Aidan Anderson, Jacob Van Winkle and Justin Maggard won the race in 45.07 seconds.

The 4x200 relay of Mitchell, Kaden Hale, Anderson and Carter Burns finished in 1:37.49 for the win.

Mitchell and Anderson teamed back up for the sprint medley with Van Winkle and Landon Fenton to win in 1 minute, 43.17 seconds.

The final relay win came in the 4x400. The team of Burns, Beau Webb, Mickey Mackewich and Carson Duinink won with a time of 3:52.21.

The Mustangs were second in the shuttle hurdle relay and distance medley relays.

In the shuttle hurdle, Griffin Olson, August Stock, Fenton and Joel Greiner was second for the PCM JV in 1:14.34. PCM's varsity foursome won the race originally but was disqualified.

The distance medley team of Boell, Maggard, Webb and Duinink finished second in 4:03.22.

In the 4x800, Garin Padget, Hewitt Brinegar, Jack Eighemy and Jack Jungling finished third in 10:50.47.

The Mustangs piled up points in the field events and individual sprints.

Van Winkle (12.1) and Anderson (12.12) were 2-3 in the 100, Van Winkle (24.26) and Fenton (25.85) went 2-5 in the 200 and Fenton (55.23) and Gavin Fenton (57.59) finished 2-6 in the 400.

Maggard (17.99) and Boell (19.29) were 2-3 in the 110 high hurdles and Gavin Fenton (1:03.75) and Stock (1:06.69) took 3-5 in the 400 hurdles.

PCM's JV also made some noise in those events. Hale (12.34) came in fifth in the 100, Trey Broderson (19.49) was fourth in the 110 highs and Olson (1:07.38) finished sixth in the 400 hurdles.

Webb (2:14.59) and Padget (5:24.32) were fourth in the 800 and 1,600, respectively, to give PCM points in a pair of distance events.

PCM and PCM's JV were successful in field events.

Gavin Van Baale finished second in the discus with a throw of 117-3. Ben Buys (111-0) finished second and Kaeden Strum (98-9) could not score points but was sixth overall. Burns leaped 15-11 in the long jump to place sixth.

In the shot put, Caleb Kuefner (41-5 1/2) was second and Sage Burns (40-6) finished fourth for the varsity and Van Baale (39-7) and Jake Eslinger (36-5) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, for the Mustangs' JV.
