Mychal Threets, known as Mychal the librarian online, is a viral social media personality and supervising librarian at Solano County Library in California.
Threets, whose handle on Instagram and TikTok is @mychal3ts, is a raging optimist who frequently talks about "library joy" on his accounts.
Why was Mychal the librarian in Des Moines?
Threets visited the Des Moines Central Library and the West Des Moines Public Library on Monday for staff training.
One of Threet's common sayings is, "Having fun isn't hard when you have a library card." Monday, he shared this energy with Des Moines librarians, coming to spread his typical motivational positivity.
Threets came to motivate the staff and remind them why they do what they do, said Tim Paluch, marketing and communications supervisor for the Des Moines Library.
Threets said in an Instagram caption that this experience was, "a great reminder of connection, of how library people across the world need encouragement."
