She’s survived the jungle, sung backing vocals for Cliff Richard, and appeared on Mastermind. Now Myleene Klass has announced she’s joining Dancing On Ice for 2021.

The presenter and musician is the first celebrity contestant to attach their name to the new series of the reality TV show. She made the announcement on her Instagram channel.

“Guess who won’t be holding the coats at the side of the rink anymore!” she wrote.

“I am so, SO excited to be joining the cast of @dancingonice. My girls have always wanted me to do this but I’ve always been too scared someone will skate over my fingers!

“Anyway, I want to make them proud and show them I’m up for a challenge when completely out of my comfort zone but most of all, I want a bum like Jlo!”

The post already had over 11,000 likes by Monday morning, and friends and fans were quick to congratulate her on the news.

Former contestant Ian “H” Watkins of Steps simply said “YASSSSSSSS!!!!!!! ❄️ ❄️ ❄️ xxxxxx”, while Emma Bunton said “Wowzer!!! You go girl! X” and Katie Piper declared she would be cheering Klass on “from the sofa”.

It’s the second time in two weeks that Klass has made headlines. She announced just last week that she was the “happiest girl in the world!” and for her friends to “buy a hat” after her partner of five years, businessman Simon Motson, got down on one knee and proposed.

Klass and the 11 other, soon-to-be-announced celebs will take to the ice in the new year. The rest of the show’s line-up remains the same: Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby will be presenting, and Torvill and Dean, Ashley Banjo and John Barrowman will be back as the judges.

Klass is no stranger to talent shows, after rising to fame on ITV’s Popstars as part of band Hear'Say.

Since then she’s had a successful career in classical music and more recently as a DJ. Until last week she was standing in for Kate Garraway on Smooth FM while the Good Morning Britain star cared for her sick husband.

Klass said the reason she’d signed up to to Dancing On Ice was to make her daughters proud.

"I have a 13-year-old daughter and a 9-year-old daughter who are obsessed with ice skating,” she said. “They both ice skate and I stand there and I hold the coats. That’s my role – to tie the shoelaces and hold the coats. Now it's my turn to learn and I can't wait!"
