Myrtle Beach’s Ocean Boulevard crowded with traffic despite weather. Here’s what to do

Traffic is getting jammed around Ocean Boulevard as thousands of visitors travel to Myrtle Beach, despite the stormy weather.

In particular, the stretch from 39th Avenue North down to 9th Avenue is slow. You can check real-time information on traffic patterns on the South Carolina Department of Transportation website.

Ocean Boulevard is being handled as a single-lane road, causing some of the delays.

Northbound lanes are being reserved for emergency response vehicles. Specific entry points are along Ocean Boulevard to Kings Highway, at 29th Avenue North, 21st Avenue North, Ninth Avenue North, Third Avenue South, Ninth Avenue South and 13th Avenue South.

Law enforcement may divert pedestrian and vehicular traffic as needed, so be mindful of the extra police presence as you drive.

Where to view live traffic cameras

The South Carolina Department of Transportation keeps a list of live traffic cameras on its website. You can view the traffic on US 17 Bypass North at Joe White Avenue, 29th Avenue, 38th Avenue and US 501 here.

Officials are also encouraging drivers to use wayfinding apps, such as Waze and Google Maps, to help navigate traffic patterns.

The city will update its traffic patterns that can be accessed on such apps.
