A mystery company is bring hundreds of jobs to North Myrtle Beach. Here’s what we know.

A mystery company code-named Project Cook is preparing to invest $15 million within North Myrtle Beach on a project that will create hundreds of jobs over the next decade.

The announcement continues an economic hot streak for South Carolina’s fastest-growing county, which is also seeing big spending from FedEx and DC BLOX, a data center provider using Myrtle Beach’s International Technology and Aerospace Park as a launching point to expand global communication networks.

Officials are expected to offer more details about the venture in the coming weeks — a third vote by the County Council finalizing tax incentives and performance thresholds is necessary before the company’s name is revealed.

However, documents show that Project Cook plans to bring 146 full-time jobs as part of its $15 million venture.

In return, the company will see a lifetime annual property tax rate of 6%.

Barry Spivey, the county’s assistant administrator, said Nov. 29, Project Cook plans to open a facility somewhere within North Myrtle Beach city limits.

It’s the second multi-million dollar project to arrive in Horry County since October, when officials revealed that FedEx is planning to spend $64 million on a 250,000-square-foot distribution center on property once part the Hard Rock Park.
