Name a cockroach after your lovebug - or ex - this Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is crawling closer, and if you're bugging out about finding the perfect gift, here's one attracting a lot of buzz.

The Bronx Zoo once again is offering the chance to name a Madagascar hissing cockroach after your lovebug — or your ex.

This year, the zoo is offering options ranging from a digital certificate with your roach's chosen name to "The Works" gift package that includes a roach plush, two pairs of roach socks, a printed certificate and a Valentine's Virtual Encounter on Feb. 10, 11 or 14 with a Madagascar hissing cockroach - and a surprise animal guest. During the encounter, you will chat live with experts about caring for these "unique and charming creatures," the zoo says. You also can add the virtual encounter to a digital certificate.

Prices include $15 for a digital certificate; $35 for a digital certificate and virtual encounter; and $85 for "The Works" gift package. You also can order the roach plush and roach socks in various packages with or without the virtual encounter.

'Roach Romance'

Looking for a unique date night this Valentine's Day weekend?

The zoo is offering "Roach Romance," an evening of wine, chocolate and creepy crawlies.

More specifically: "Spend the evening sampling sustainably grown chocolate at this exclusive after-hours program. Learn about the importance of insects in the production of chocolate — from cocoa pollination to soil health maintenance," the zoo says.

You'll also "get an up close introduction to ambassador animals," it says.

Roach Romance is set for 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10. The ticket price ($120, $96 for members) includes full admission to the zoo for two people, parking, wine and chocolate.
