Names&Faces: Dunmore teenager joins National Society of High School Scholars

Jul. 19—A Dunmore teenager earned top honors from an organization that recognizes academic excellence.

Alyssa Murphy, 17, of Dunmore recently accepted a membership offer with the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS).

According to a press release, NSHSS "connects outstanding young scholars with the resources they need to develop their strengths and pursue their passions."

Alyssa was awarded the honor thanks to outstanding leadership, scholarship and community commitment. This includes academic achievement at Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School, where the teen transferred after the onset of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020. The Dunmore resident also has worked for the law firm of Minora, Krowiak, Munley and Batyko since August 2022. Alyssa has received firsthand knowledge in the field that will help on the path to becoming an attorney or a member of the FBI.

"I am honored to recognize the hard work, passion, and commitment that Alyssa has demonstrated to achieve this exceptional level of academic excellence," said NSHSS co-founder and President James W. Lewis. "Alyssa is now a member of a unique community of scholars — a community that represents our very best hope for the future."
