LEBANON – Staci A. Hermann, PharmD, MS, chief pharmacy officer of Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health, is among Modern Healthcare’s 2022 class of Top 25 Innovators. Modern Healthcare, the leader in healthcare business news, research and data, annually recognizes leaders who are instituting innovation and leading transformative programs that improve care by achieving measurable results and contributing to the clinical and financial goals of their organization.

“I am deeply honored to be recognized by Modern Healthcare. I often get so busy in just ‘doing the work’ that I don’t stop to think that what we’re working on is innovative and can help other organizations across the country,” said Hermann. “This would not have been possible without the great team that I work with at D-HH. I would also like to congratulate all the awardees on their accomplishments.”

Modern Healthcare recognized Hermann for leading three key initiatives to reduce the health system’s costs and improve its efficiencies through system standardization, drug pricing programs, and evaluating the pharmaceutical budget in D-HH’s health plan.

Hermann developed and operationalized a system-wide Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, which aligns the inpatient medication list across all hospitals in the system. She also centralized D-HH’s clinic practice medication purchases. Additionally, Hermann identified an opportunity to save money by shifting to biosimilar products administered through intravenous therapy. This initiative is currently being implemented and is anticipated to save the health system several million dollars.

“The healthcare industry is undergoing rapid transformation, driven by innovations in digital health technology and demand for alternative care models,” said Fawn Lopez, publisher of Modern Healthcare. “This year’s Top 25 Innovators not only have the courage to try new ideas and approaches, but they also have the vision to turn them into tangible improvements in patient outcomes and experiences, population health, efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Their innovative leadership serves as a model to aspire to, and we congratulate them for their achievements.”

Hermann was named chief pharmacy officer in November 2018. In this role, she leads and provides executive leadership for all D-HH’s pharmacy business lines. Hermann also provides strategic oversight and direction of pharmacy programs across the entire health system. Prior to becoming the chief pharmacy officer, Hermann was D-HH’s system director of clinical services. In 2021, Hermann was recognized and named a Carol Emmott Fellow.

This year’s honorees are profiled in the April 4 issue of Modern Healthcare magazine and online at www.modernhealthcare.com/awards/top-25-innovators-2022.
