House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s appearance on-stage at the Global Citizen’s music festival in Central Park was met with resounding boos from the crowd.

The California Democrat appeared on stage as a surprise guest alongside Priyanka Chopra Jonas to talk about climate change.

“As speaker of the House, I am here to thank you for your dazzling advocacy, entrepreneurial thinking, and determination as global citizens,” she told the audience.

A video on social media appears to show Pelosi being heavily booed while she talks, with one audience member saying, “why is everybody booing?”

Pelosi, 82, pressed on through the booing, saying, “It’s thanks to your help that the United States recently enacted historic climate legislation, which will be a game changer,” the New York Post reported. “It will slash carbon pollution by 40% by 2030, it will give a historic, an historic $370 billion to fight the climate crisis.”

The Global Citizen festival “is an annual music festival where fans take actions toward ending extreme poverty in order to earn free tickets” and “Global Citizens, artists, activists, world leaders, philanthropists, corporate leaders, and more,” are invited to take part to end poverty, according to its website.

The apparent dissatisfaction with Pelosi extends to her own party. Representative Elissa Slotkin (D., Mich.) has said she would like to see Pelosi step down as house speaker.

“I have always said, I think it’s time we have new leadership,” Slotkin said on CNN. “I think it’s time, frankly, that some Midwesterners get into leadership. We have a lot of New York and California; I’d like to see more diversity in leadership there. I have made a commitment to my district—I stick to that commitment.”
