Nancy Pelosi ‘Pretty Comfortable’ That She’ll Return as House Speaker: ‘I Am a Great Legislator’
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was coy about whether she planned to return as speaker of the house if Democrats won next month’s midterm elections, saying she was “pretty comfortable” with the idea while lauding her qualities as a politician.
“I feel pretty comfortable,” she told CNN anchor Dana Bash during an interview in New York City on Monday. “But I am a great legislator and one of the reasons I am is because I recognize the contributions of others.
“Self-promotion is a terrible thing, but clearly somebody has to do it,” the California Democrat said. “I have usually been very shy about my own thing. None of us are indispensable but everyone has something to offer for the time and I think I am that person.”

Pelosi told Bash that if the election were held today, she was confident that her party would retake control of the House of Representatives.
Pelosi, who is now 78 years old, has been a representative since 1987 and was the first woman to serve as speaker of the chamber in 2006. She had remained leader of her caucus despite presiding over historic losses for her party since that time.

Pelosi took the stage at CNN’s New York headquarters less than an hour after White House adviser and Donald Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner gave a wide-ranging interview with CNN’s Van Jones that touched on prison reform and his work trying to bring peace to the Middle East.
Pelosi disparaged Kushner and the administration he served, singling out President Trump’s response to the death of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi, and strongly suggested that Trump might be compromised because of his business interests with the country.
“I think we should follow the money when we look at the presidents’ attitude to Saudi Arabia,” she said. “Interpret it any way you want.”
“I do think it’s shameful how [the Saudis] are acting,” she continued. “They show up with a bone saw and say oh he started a fight or something … The questions is how much degree of separation can [Mohammad Bin Salman ] can have.”
After weeks of denials, Saudi Arabia has now admitted that Khashoggi, a frequent regime critic, was killed inside their consulate in Istanbul earlier this month. During an interview with Fox News, the country’s foreign minister Adel al-Jubeir said the killing had been a “tremendous mistake” and conducted by “rogue” operatives who then attempted a cover-up.
