'Cancel Rent': Nancy Pelosi, Mitch McConnell Homes Vandalized Amid Stimulus Showdown

Vandals spray-painted messages demanding heftier COVID-19 relief measures on the respective homes of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) as Congress continues to clash over stimulus checks.

“We want everything,” read the black graffiti on Pelosi’s garage at her San Francisco home Friday morning. The message also stated “Cancel rent” and “$2K,” apparently referring to COVID-19 stimulus payments.

“Where’s my money” was spray-painted in white on the front door of McConnell’s home Saturday in Louisville, Kentucky. Another message ― “Mitch kills the poor” ― was graffitied on one of the windows of the house.

President Donald Trump, most Democratic lawmakers and some of their Republican colleagues have called for increasing the stimulus checks outlined in the most recent COVID-19 relief package passed by Congress from $600 to $2,000 for every eligible American.

The Democratic-controlled House passed a bill for $2,000 checks last week but McConnell has so far refused to bring the proposed legislation to a vote in the upper chamber, despite several Republican senators encouraging him to do so.

It wasn’t immediately clear who was responsible for vandalizing the political leaders’ houses. Police said they were called to Pelosi’s home at 2 a.m. Friday and took a report. No one was apprehended, and police have asked for help locating those responsible.

By Friday afternoon the message was covered with black garbage bags, ABC-7 News reported.

Neither Pelosi nor McConnell has publicly addressed the incidents.
