When Palm Springs throws itself a birthday bash next month, Nancy Sinatra will be the guest of honor.

The city announced Tuesday that the iconic singer of the 1960s hit "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'" will ride in the classic car parade planned for the event as the celebrity grand marshal. Sinatra’s famous father, Frank, lived in Palm Springs for decades and help put it on the map.

Sinatra, who is 82, has appeared at several events in the city in recent years, including multiple events at Modernism Week last month.

The city has said that parade, which will start at 11:30 a.m. on April 8, will consist of 85 cars from each of the 85 years since the city was incorporated.

A press release about Sinatra’s selection said that Guinness Book of World Records staff will be attending and documenting the event, which an organizer said is believed to be the first time so many cars from different years will be brought together in one place.

The parade will travel down Amado and Belardo roads to Palm Springs’ Downtown Park and include what the city describes as local celebrities, community leaders and city pioneers who will ride in the cars. Among the figures slated to ride in the parade are former pro tennis star Rosemary Casals and local artist Phillip K. Smith.

The parade will kick off a day of festivities that also will include a car show featuring the vehicles from the parade and a dog costume contest in the park at 6 p.m. The festivities will conclude with an Elton John tribute concert in the park at 7 p.m. There will also be children’s activities in the park and at the neighboring Palm Springs Art Museum throughout the day.

A full schedule can be found on the event website, palmsprings85.com.

Correction: A previous version of this story misstated Casals' last name and the start time of the parade, which is 11:30 a.m.
