Nantucket High School student killed in crash

A Nantucket High School student was killed in a crash yesterday afternoon in Nantucket.

Nantucket Police and Massachusetts State Police were called to the scene just before 3 p.m. for reports of a motor vehicle accident, involving a truck and motorcycle at the intersection of Milestone Road and New South Road.

When police arrived to the scene, the driver of the motorcycle was determined dead.

“We are heartbroken by the loss of one of our high school students in a tragic motor vehicle accident yesterday,” said Nantucket Superintendent Beth Hallett. “Classes at Nantucket High School will be canceled, but the building will be open for students and staff to seek support services and be together during this difficult time.”

According to the Nantucket Current, members of the boys hockey team will wear an #81 decal on their helmets to honor their deceased classmate.

The name of the student has not yet been released and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
