Even Olympians like Naomi Osaka fangirl over other celebrities, reminding us of our common humanity.

The tennis star was officially announced as one of the cohosts for the 2021 Met Gala, alongside singer Billie Eilish, actor Timothée Chalamet, and poet-activist Amanda Gorman.

Yesterday, Osaka took to Instagram to commemorate her new headlining role with a multi-image post captioned, “oh we lit.” In addition to a selfie and an image of the famous stone steps at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, she included in the post headshots of her fellow cohosts, along with three images of Rihanna rocking evocative looks from previous Met Galas. As it turns out, Osaka’s post was also her personal vision board. She added, “And yes I’m trying to manifest Rihanna.”

Osaka hasn’t just been outspoken on Instagram about her love for Rihanna. She previously shared that Rihanna was her first celebrity crush, and on Monday, posted on Twitter, writing, “If I see Rihanna ima pass out.” Many followers responded, some of whom empathized with her sentiments. “Ima pass out when i see you too,” wrote one user, @tj_wachira. Another, @enirdlam, stanned for both queens, tweeting, “we need that Rihanna x Naomi pic.”

The Met Gala’s Costume Institute Benefit is set to take place on September 13, followed by a two-part exhibition: “A Lexicon of Fashion” and “An Anthology of Fashion,” hosted on September 18, 2021, and May 5, 2022, respectively.

The event will be even more intimate and exclusive than its previous seasons. Given the smaller guest list, maybe there’s a better chance of Osaka and Rihanna finally meeting.
