Naperville Trick-Or-Treat 2020: City Offers Safety Tips

NAPERVILLE, IL — Naperville's trick-or-treat 2020 will be different from other years due to the new coronavirus. Though Naperville does not have an ordinance establishing trick-or-treat times, the city has released a list of safety tips for residents who decide to take part in trick-or-treating.

Residents who do not want to have trick-or-treaters at their homes can post a "no trick-or-treating" sign. Signs are available for pickup at the Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle St.

Residents who choose to welcome trick-or-treaters should follow these safety tips:

  • Post a "trick-or-treaters welcome" sign (Signs are available for pickup at the Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle St.)

  • Wear a cloth mask

  • Wear gloves

  • Pass out candy individually instead of having kids take candy from a communal bowl

Halloween Coronavirus Guidance Issued By Pritzker Administration

For those who trick-or-treat, the city offers the following safety tips:

  • Keep trick-or-treating groups small

  • Maintain "a safe distance" from other people and groups

  • Wear a face mask at all times

  • Wash your hands before eating candy

  • Parents should inspect candy first

Naperville Mayor Steve Chirico said in a news release, "Ultimately, the goal is for every resident to have the opportunity to celebrate Halloween in a manner they feel comfortable with while also ensuring the continued health and safety of our community. We’re encouraging residents to educate themselves about the risks so that they can either practice appropriate measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 or take steps to sit trick-or-treating out this year."

City officials added that its guidance may change depending on recommendations from the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Will and DuPage County Health Departments.
