Naples PD reveals 2023 car crash statistics: Where accidents occurred and why

Whether it's a fender bender or a head-on collision, nobody wants to be involved in a car crash. But with millions of crashes occurring across the country every year, it's important to be aware of your surroundings and the type of crash you're most likely to get in.

We spoke with the Naples Police Department to get data on the city's 2023 car crash statistics, including where most crashes happen and why.

How many crashes did Naples experience in 2023?

NPD reports that there were 994 car crashes in 2023.

Where do crashes happen the most?

The police say there's five intersections where the most crashes happen.

  • Golden Gate Pkwy/Goodlette Rd. N.

  • 5th Ave. S./10th St. S.

  • 5th Ave. S./ Goodlette Rd. S.

  • 9th St. N./Golden Gate Pkwy

  • 5th Ave. S./River Point Dr.

What were the most common causes of crashes?

NPD says these were the top three causes of automobile accidents in 2023:

  1. Careless driving

  2. Following too closely

  3. Failed to yield while approaching or entering an intersection

What were the most common types of impact?

The department said the top three types of impact in 2023 were:

  1. Angle

  2. Front to rear

  3. Side swipe, same direction
