The NASCAR Cup Series begins the season as it always does, with the Daytona 500 in Daytona International Speedway on Sunday.

Before then, Thursday's Duels will set the field for Sunday's race. Of the six cars that do not have a locked-in spot into Sunday's field, Jimmie Johnson and Travis Pastrana had the two fastest qualifying speeds in Wednesday's qualifying. Johnson and Pastrana are locked into the race now and can fall back on their qualifying times should they not race in on Thursday.

Alex Bowman won the pole for Sunday's 500 and can treat Thursday's Duel as a practice session. Kyle Larson will start on the outside pole. Those are the only two locked lineup positions; the rest will be set on Thursday night.
