NASCAR Cup Series playoff schedule unchanged for 2020

NASCAR is going to try to run the Cup Series playoffs as they were originally scheduled.

NASCAR released its postseason schedule on Thursday and the 10 playoff races that were set at the start of the season are still the 10 playoff races despite the pandemic. That means NASCAR will try to run the final 12 races of the year as scheduled starting with a Sunday race at Dover on Aug. 23.

The playoff schedule goes as follows: Darlington, Richmond and Bristol are the first-round races. The second-round races are at Las Vegas, Talladega and the Charlotte Roval. The third-round races are at Kansas, Texas and Martinsville and the winner-take-all championship race is at Phoenix.

The only changes to the schedule come in the Xfinity and Truck Series as NASCAR is making up postponed races in those series.

NASCAR stopped for 10 weeks from mid-March to mid-May because of the coronavirus pandemic. The month of August has six Cup Series races across four weekends as NASCAR hustled to fill out the schedule. The Cup Series will run two races at Michigan on Saturday and Sunday and two races at Dover on Aug. 22 and Aug. 23.

Here’s how the schedule will look after August. Xfinity Series and Truck Series races marked with a * are playoff races.
