From Road & Track

This year's crazy motorsport scheduling changes led IndyCar and NASCAR to hold a double-header weekend for the first time ever. The IndyCar series and NASCAR's Xfinity series both ran races on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course over the July 4th weekend. It worked out so well, the two are joining forces again for the 2021 season, this time with the NASCAR Cup Series in tow.

The Speedway announced today that the IndyCar series will race on the road course on August 14, 2021, with the Cup Series' Brickyard 400 set for the following day, also on the road course. This will be the first time these two premiere U.S. championships will run on the same track during weekend, and the first time the Brickyard 400 will be held on the road course instead of the Speedway oval.

And hopefully, fans will be allowed at next year's historic event. This year's IndyCar-NASCAR double-header was held behind closed doors to help combat the spread of COVID-19.

This news comes as we're learning a bit more about the 2021 schedules for NASCAR and IndyCar. NACAR's is particularly exciting, with more road courses for the Cup Series, and a return to dirt for the first time since 1970.
