Final Stage

6:48 p.m., Lap 171 FINAL: Kyle Busch wins his 99th race in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, giving Joe Gibbs Racing its 300th win with Toyota as its manufacturer.

Busch again lined up on the inside with Austin Cindric behind him for the final overtime restart, and the No. 54 sailed away from the field and held the lead for the final five laps. Busch said post-race that having Cindric on his tail for multiple late restarts made a difference.

“Depending who was behind and who was going to push you was how it was gonna go,” Busch said. “Being in my position it’s kinda hard to rely on anybody in that (scenario). And it just kind of became the 22 car and certainly he was the car I needed behind me to get the job done.”

Cindric said he chose the inside lane because he thought it had more speed and because he wanted to line up behind the leader to dictate the race. He later added that not being behind Allgaier to give him more playoff points was also a factor.

“Kyle Busch winning another Xfinity race is not gonna make me lose sleep,” Cindric said.

Allgaier and Busch exchanged a friendly fist bump on pit road after the race and calls out to him, “Good job keeping it clean.”

Quotable comments:

Kyle Busch on his signature bow: “John Hunter (Nemechek) using it, I don’t know. Was it to me or was it to Chase Elliott? Who did it to me last year, who John Hunter beat today?” Busch was referring to Nemechek’s Truck Series race win today (see below).

Kyle Busch on the PJ1 traction compound: “I kind of feel like we need something different. We need something that adds grip...oh I know what adds grip, softer tires. That’s right.”

Justin Allgaier on where he lost the advantage: “The cycles on tires there, the cautions really just hurt us. We were already on the verge of being tight and (Busch) was on the verge of being a little bit loose, and obviously it played into his wheelhouse.”

Justin Allgaier on the biggest lesson he learned today: “Don’t let Kyle Busch pass you. He’s hard to pass back.”

Daniel Hemric on the heat at Texas: “We were actually debating on even running air conditioning this week...Eventually I want to get there, but I’m proud of how I feel, proud of how out Poppy Bank Toyota Supra drove, and we just have to take this and move forward.”

6:32 p.m., Lap 165: Kyle Busch gets a big push from Austin Cindric and is running away, but another caution comes out, the 10th of the day. Harrison Burton goes for a big spin on old tires and wonders if he had a flat. He’s out of his car and we’re going to overtime!

6:24 p.m., Lap 159: Myatt Snider spins and hits the inside wall hard to bring out the caution in the final 10 laps. He was contacted from behind by Josh Berry. It will be a five lap shootout to the end of this race. The leaders stay out and Kyle Busch lines up on the inside with Austin Cindric behind him. Justin Allgaier has Noah Gragson behind him on the outside.

6:12 p.m., Lap 137: Justin Allgaier lines up on the outside again with Austin Cindric giving him a big push off the restart. Kyle Busch goes high, then Allgaier drives low trying to get around him, but Busch is able to stay ahead of Allgaier. Busch was clearly taking notes on moving up to the top lane after the last restart.

6:04 p.m., Lap 129: Justin Allgaier finally gets a clear lead on Kyle Busch. He’s racing the top lane, while Busch tries to challenge him on the inside, but Busch is behind by less than half a second. Then the caution comes out again, this time for Brandon Jones, who wiggles but saves its and doesn’t appear to hit anything.

“I have no idea why they threw a caution right there,” Allgaier’s radio says.

5:58 p.m., Lap 124: The caution comes! Colby Howard goes into the wall to bring out the seventh yellow flag. But Kyle Busch, in second, isn’t totally satisfied with his equipment saying he feels, “net negative compared to last year.” Allgaier will lead the field on the restart and he chooses the outside lane with Austin Cindric directly behind him.

5:53 p.m., Lap 117: Justin Allgaier passes Kyle Busch for the top spot with a fast car, chasing the No. 54 down from the inside. Allgaier’s car looks fast and now he’s out front with clean air. It might take another caution to dethrone him...

5:48, Lap 112: Justin Allgaier’s team gives him a fast pit stop to put Allgaier ahead of Busch when they exited, but Busch beat Allgaier to the line with more aggressive speed. “If he wasn’t speeding, I don’t know how to do any better,” Allgaier said. Busch doesn’t get a speeding penalty. Allgaier takes the inside lane with Austin Cindric behind him. Busch lines up on the outside with Noah Gragson behind him.

5:40 p.m., Lap 101: Daniel Hemric quickly falls back after leading the restart, and his radio reports he “got loose in the speedy dry,” as Kyle Busch races to first. Justin Allgaier runs in second, followed by Austin Cindric, Harrison Burton, Noah Gragson and Myatt Snider.

5:27 p.m., Lap 90: The caution comes out as Kyle Busch fights with Daniel Hemric for the lead, but NASCAR deems Hemric is in the lead at the flag. Gray Gaulding and Tanner Berryhill wreck on the frontstretch, and Gaulding goes hard into the wall, but is able to exit his car by his own power after a few minutes. Berryhill takes his car to the garage and will be done for the day. Matt Mills was also collected in the wreck and has damage. Austin Cindric, Noah Gragson and Justin Allgaier were in the top-five at the flag. NASCAR is now picking up debris left on the track.

Stage 2

5:10 p.m., Lap 80: Kyle Busch wins the second stage at Texas. Daniel Hemric, Austin Cindric, Harrison Burton, Noah Gragson, Justin Allgaier, A.J. Allmendinger, Josh Berry, Riley Herbst, Michael Annett finished in the top-10 that stage.

TRUCK SERIES UPDATE: NASCAR announces that the No. 45 truck driven by Ross Chastain has been disqualified. NASCAR cites a violation of Rule 20.6.2.13.a: The throttle body must be used as supplied by the NT1 engine supplier without modification. Chastain cross the finish line in third for his third top-10 in three races, but now he will finish last. There were no other issues.

5 p.m., Lap 61: The caution is out for Jeb Burton, who was nudged by Josh Berry to send him spinning across the track and into the inside barrier. He hits the wall on the backstretch with the left side of his car nose and takes it in for repairs. “I don’t know what I could’ve done different. We got run over,” Burton said. His team radioed that Berry apologized, but on Burton’s radio, a response comes: “I don’t really care what he said. I’ll take care of him after the race.”

3:56 p.m., Lap 55: Daniel Hemric leads the field off pit road and fires off on the restart, but Kyle Busch was right there and passes him on the same lap. Busch is the new leads as Hemric stays on his tail, but there’s a two-second difference between them. And A.J. Allmendinger is back up to third.

Stage 1

4:45 p.m. Lap 40: Austin Cindric wins the first stage of the race, his sixth stage win of the year. He’s followed in the top-10 by Daniel Hemric, Kyle Busch, Branon Jones, Justin Haley, A.J. Allmendinger, Justin Allgaier, Michael Annett, Harrison Burton and Noah Gragson.

4:36 p.m., Lap 29: Kyle Busch assumes the lead, but Austin Cindric races to first place inside him as Busch drives high into the traction compound around the turn. Cindric is the new leader.

4:31 p.m., Lap 20: Brandon Jones leads at the competition caution followed by Kyle Busch, who’s up to second, and A.J. Allmendinger meanwhile has dropped out of the top-five to sixth. There’s frustration on the 16 radio at the flag, as Allmendinger reports he’s free everywhere and it “seems like I’m turning right on all these racetracks,” he says. The team elects not to pit for adjustments along with the rest of the field.

4:23 p.m., Lap 9: A.J. Allmendinger leads the opening laps, but is passed by Brandon Jones before Lap 15. Meanwhile, Kyle Busch has driven into the top-five after starting in 14th. Noah Gragson, who started 30th, is into the top-15. Allmendinger is quickly falling back.

Pre-race

3:53 p.m.: Ryan Vargas will start at the rear for unapproved adjustments. Vargas was previously slated to start 15th.

3:50 p.m.: Driver intros are underway in Fort Worth and the track is heating up with temperatures hovering in the low-90s. But the track has already been worked in earlier today with the Truck Series race just wrapping up.

3:20 p.m.: John Hunter Nemechek wins the NASCAR Truck Series race at Texas Motor Speedway that started ahead of the Xfinity race. The win is Nemechek’s fourth this year (10th all-time in the series). Chase Elliott finished in second and Ross Chastain finished in third after. Nemechek won the last race at Charlotte and leads the series in standings with four wins.

“I feel like we’ve been making a statement all year,” Nemechek said on FS1. “I feel like we’re one of the favorites every time we show up to the race track.”

“He did a good job making time after we pitted and then getting on and off pit road, so congrats to him and their team,” Elliott said on FS1 after the race. “We’ll try to learn. I just don’t feel great here...I feel like I push myself in the same box like I do in a Cup car, too.”

The NASCAR Xfinity Series race is up next at 4 p.m. EST and is the 14th race this season, which means the series is just under halfway through the schedule this year. A.J. Allmendinger is starting on the pole for today’s Xfinity race with Kaulig Racing teammate Justin Haley in the front row. Allmendinger is second in points in the series at 96 points behind series leader Austin Cindric.
