This Nashville Hotel Wants to Turn You Into Music’s Next Superstar

It’s obvious that Nashville is the go-to spot for polished singer-songwriters across the nation. Don’t feel intimidated, though: It’s also a place where budding artists can learn the ropes about music. Believe it or not, the Hutton Hotel near downtown Nashville wants to help its visitors learn everything they can about songwriting during their stay. In order to do so, the hotel will host weekend-long Writers Retreats throughout summer 2019 where industry professionals will teach Hutton guests how to write songs.

When I say “industry professionals,” I mean it. The retreats will be lead by a group of Grammy-nominated songwriters, producers and engineers. Jill Schmidt, the director for programming at Analog (the hotel’s on-site music venue where stars like Maren Morris and Allen Stone have performed), will also be directing the retreats. In other words, the songwriters will be in great hands.

Now that you know who’ll be running the Writers Retreats, you’re probably wondering what they’ll entail. As someone who’s already experienced a musical weekend at the Hutton, I can attest that they’re informative, inspiring, and super relaxing (they are considered “retreats,” after all).

When guests begin their Writers Retreat, they’ll be taken to a welcome reception followed by an introductory workshop. After that, the songwriting will begin. According to a statement from Hutton Hotel, retreat guests will be broken up into individual groups where they’ll learn how to write their own music. After they’ve written with the pros, they’ll be able to record their songs and go home with their own tracks.

So, where will this be happening? Believe it or not, the writing and recording portions of the retreats will be held in on-site Writers Studios at the Hutton Hotel. There are two of them, to be exact, and each one was designed with the help of a famous singer-songwriter. More specifically, Studio 11 Design teamed up with OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder and country star Dierks Bently to create the rooms. Tedder’s New York City-inspired studio has a “loft” feel, which Bently’s studio has major “Arizona” vibes.

Even though I’m a sucker for New York City, I’m loving Bently’s room.

Both of them are gorgeous, though.

Oh, did I mention that Maren Morris and Zedd recorded their hit song, “The Middle,” in these studios? Because they did.

As if that’s not enough to convince you that the Hutton Hotel wants to make you the next big songwriter, get this: Retreat-goers will also have the option to explore Nashville’s most iconic music spots throughout the weekend, such as RCA Studio B, Third Man Records, the Grande Ole Opry, and more. Talk about inspiring.

As you could imagine, guests who sign up for the Writers Retreats will stay inside their own one-bedroom suites at the Hutton Hotel (which, may I add, are gorgeous). The suites include irresistible accommodations such as pillowy king-sized beds, queen sleeper sofas, 24-hour room service and — my personal favorite — rainfall shower heads in the bathroom. It’s Music City paradise.

The cost of the entire weekend is still TBD, but guests who wish to partake in the Writers Retreats can contact the hotel in the meantime for more information. For reference, the getaways will take place throughout July, August, and September 2019 — so mark your calendars and do your vocal warm-ups. Stardom is calling.
