Nashville police charge suspected drag racer after crash kills Clarksville man

A man suspected of drag racing lost control of his car and caused a three-vehicle crash killing a 34-year-old man, Nashville police said.

Patrick Ewin, 31, now faces a vehicular homicide by recklessness charge in connection with the death of Clarksville resident Jacob Barnhardt, according to a news release.

Ewin was driving a 2017 Dodge Charger Hellcat at speeds higher than 100 mph on Clarksville Pike Monday afternoon, police said. Surveillance footage from nearby businesses showed Ewin reportedly racing another Dodge Charger.

Ewin reportedly lost control of the car crossing from the southbound lanes into the opposite lanes of traffic, hit the Honda Insight Barnhardt was driving and then a Toyota Tacoma.

Barnhardt was cut from the Honda and taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment but ultimately died. Ewin was also taken to the hospital for minor injuries then booked into jail, police said. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.
