Nashville police: Man charged with homicide after fatal stabbing in Old Hickory

A man was arrested and charged with criminal homicide after a fatal stabbing in Old Hickory on Tuesday, the Metro Nashville Police Department reported.

Anthony Eugene Summers, 53, was treated at a local hospital for an injury to his hand and was booked on the charge today, MNPD said in a news release.

Daniel Baynes, 58, was found dead inside a home that was being remodeled in the 3200 block of Lake Shore Drive in Old Hickory, police said.

His death marked the fifth criminal homicide in Nashville this year.

A construction contractor found Baynes dead at 3:30 p.m. and called police. Detectives believe Baynes was stabbed by an acquaintance.

"Officers were told that Baynes was assisting with the remodel and was being allowed to stay on the property," the release said. "Baynes was found to have multiple stab wounds, including to his face and abdomen."

Baynes' pickup truck was found later at a store in the 800 block of Dickerson Pike. Police said Summers was inside the store, fled and was later caught. He admitted in an interview with police that he had been in a fight with Baynes.
