Nashville police: Mother, 12-year-old daughter shot in car on Interstate 24
Metro police are investigating after a mother and her 12-year-old daughter were shot in a car along Interstate 24 in Nashville on Sunday night.
According to a news release issued Wednesday afternoon, the 32-year-old woman who lives in Rutherford County, was driving on I-24 East with her daughters, ages 7 and 12, between the Hickory Hollow and Old Hickory Boulevard exits when an unknown vehicle opened fire on her Black Infinity.
The Infinity was struck by at least five bullets, police reported.
Two of the shots struck the woman in her left side and her 12-year-old daughter in the hand. Her other daughter was not hurt, police said.
The injured mother and daughter were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with minor injuries.
The woman told police "she was driving normally and did not believe this was a road rage incident," the release reads.
According to police, other vehicles traveling on the interstate at the time were swerving to avoid the gunfire so the victim could not identify which was responsible.
