Nashville Predators land veteran Ryan McDonagh in trade with Tampa Bay Lightning

The Nashville Predators acquired veteran defenseman Ryan McDonagh in a trade with the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday.

The Predators sent two prospects — defenseman Philippe Myers and forward Grant Mismash — to the Lightning in exchange for McDonagh, who won two Stanley Cups and reached another Cup Final in his four-plus seasons in Tampa Bay.

McDonagh, 33, has 337 points (71 goals, 266 assists) in his 13 seasons in the NHL, including 26 points (four goals, 22 assists) and a team-leading 137 blocked shots this past season.

According to NHL.com, his 185 playoff games ranks fourth among active players, behind Zdeno Chara (200), Corey Perry (190) and Joe Thornton (187). McDonagh also ranks third among Tampa Bay defensemen in Stanley Cup Playoffs history in games (89), assists (21) and points (23).

McDonagh has four seasons left on his seven-year, $47.25 million contract he signed with the Lightning on July 1, 2018. He was selected by the Montreal Canadiens with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2007 NHL draft, before being traded to the New York Rangers, where he spent his first six-plus seasons in the league.

Myers, 25, was acquired by the Predators in the trade that sent Ryan Ellis to the Philadelphia Flyers on July 17, 2021. He appeared in 27 games for the Predators last season, registering three points.

Mismash, 23, was a second-round draft pick (61st overall) of the Predators in 2017. He has not appeared in an NHL game.
