Nashville Predators trade Mikael Granlund to Pittsburgh Penguins

A day after facing the Pittsburgh Penguins, Mikael Granlund is a Pittsburgh Penguin.

The Nashville Predators on Wednesday traded the 31-year-old forward in exchange for a second-round draft pick.

Granlund is the fourth Predator, along with Nino Niederreiter, Tanner Jeannot and Mattias Ekholm, to be traded since Feb. 25. He has nine goals and 27 assists in 58 games with Nashville this season and 51 goals and 111 assists in 162 games with the franchise.

Granlund was acquired from the Minnesota Wild for Kevin Fiala at the 2019 trade deadline. The Predators so far have accumulated nine draft picks in the four deals − a first-, third-, fourth- and fifth-round pick in this year's draft; two second-round picks and a fourth in 2024; and a first-round pick in 2025.

They also have 13 pick in this summer's draft, which will be held in Nashville − one in the sixth round; two in the first, second and fifth rounds; and three in the third and fourth rounds.

"All these picks, that can be used as currency for something else," said Predators general manager David Poile, who is retiring this summer.

Poile said he became "a listener a while back." a couple of weeks before the deals started going down.

Granlund has two years left on his four-year, $20 million deal.
