Nashville TikTok star reveals her battle with intrusive thoughts

Good morning, friends, this is storytelling columnist Brad Schmitt, hoping you got to enjoy some of the relatively nice weather over the weekend.

If you don't know TikTok comedian Kelly Bandas, you can/should check out her cute videos here — like millions of folks already have.

During the pandemic, Kelly, a Franklin mom of three, created this character where she plays a teen girl in the early 2000s, and some of those 30- and 45-second videos have more than 6 million views each.

Kelly also posts hilarious and seemingly deadly accurate videos where she impersonates her young sons.

Kelly recently published her first book, "Rookie Mistakes", an autobiography, which, no surprise is super funny. The surprise comes from the fact that Kelly reveals a lifelong battle with terrifying intrusive thoughts.

For a subscriber-only story, Kelly also sat down with me for nearly two hours to talk about what that looks and feels like, and how her religious upbringing may have fed into her OCD.

"As my worries began to escalate and become more and more bizarre, so did my behavior," she wrote in her book.
