Nashville weather: Severe storms, damaging winds expected for Middle TN Friday night

Keep your weather radio handy and cell phones charged Friday night the weather could get bumpy in Nashville.

The National Weather Service said storms will roll across Nashville and Middle Tennessee overnight Friday and through the early morning hours Saturday. All of Middle Tennessee will get hit with these storms, but the greatest impact is likely to be just west of Nashville and Interstate 65, the NWS said.

Hail and isolated tornadoes are possible, but straight-line winds with gusts between 60 and 75 mph that could cause widespread tree damage and power outages are the main concern, the NWS said.

There's also the possibility of frequent lightning and locally brief heavy downpours.

As always, it's important to remain weather aware, NWS said. There are multiple ways to get weather alerts, including cell phone push alerts from local media and weather apps; social media updates; local news coverage; and NOAA weather radios.

NWS recommends having an emergency kit you can quickly grab in case of an emergency. It should include essential supplies like food, water, flashlights, batteries, medicine, extra clothing and shoes, toiletries and solar-powered chargers for electronic devices.

Friday: Chance of showers and thunderstorms after 10 a.m., high near 77. Severe storms overnight with damaging wind gusts possible, low around 61.

Saturday: Showers possible before 1 p.m., high near 73 with a low around 44.

Sunday: Mostly sunny with a high near 69. Chance of showers in the evening, low around 47.

Monday: Mostly sunny with a high near 72, low around 44.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny with a high near 62, low around 38.
