Nashville's Peg Leg Porker lands on Southern Living's The South's Top 50 Barbecue Joints

The Gulch's Peg Leg Porker made Southern Living's The South's Top 50 Barbecue Joints list. The release of the 2022 rankings is the first time the magazine published a new edition since 2019.

Located at 903 Gleaves St., the family-owned West Tennessee-style barbecue restaurant and catering company was founded in 2013 by Carey Bringle. Appetizers include BBQ Nachos, Soul Potato and Memphis Sushi. Dry Rubbed Ribs, Pulled Pork Platter, BBQ Sandwich and Yardbird Platter are popular entrees. Peach Apple Pie and Banana Pudding are true Tennessee dessert staples also available on the menu.

Peg Leg Porker landed at 41 on The South's list. Southern Living's Charleston-based contributing barbecue editor Robert F. Moss compiled the list as part of his, "continual series of barbecue tours and 'research' trips,'" he told The Tuscaloosa News.

Moss added, "...Some made as part of working on other barbecue features for Southern Living, others undertaken specifically to revisit restaurants on prior years' lists and to visit new potential contenders, which I track down myself through my own research and consulting with fellow barbecue junkies."

To make the cut, the overall dining experience of a barbecue eatery was taken into consideration, from the meals to the space. Peg Leg Porker was recognized for its two-floor setup with welcoming dining areas and a balcony to enjoy classic barbecue-based dishes.

Peg Leg Porker is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday. It's closed on Sunday.
