Nassau Student Group Donates Tons Of PPE To South Nassau Hospital

OCEANSIDE, NY — A Nassau student-run organization donated thousands of pieces of personal protective equipment to Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital and its front-line workers.

The group LI Laboring Against COVID-19 (LILAC) was created by 15-year-old Syosset High School student Sabrina Guo. Since it was founded in March, LILAC has provided PPE and other relief and support, like meals, to medical staff and front-line workers across Long Island.

On Tuesday, LILAC donated 14,000 three-ply masks, 4,000 KN95 masks, 200 isolation gowns, 2,000 PPE kits, and boxes of hand sanitizer to the hospital. LILAC is a student-run organization founded by Syosset High School student Sabrina Guo, 15.

In addition to the 20,000 pieces of PPE, LILAC also donated $2,000 worth of lunches to the staff at South Nassau. The group donated 120 lunches through two Black-owned businesses: Sarah Brown Catering of Great Neck and BennyB's Restaurant in Baldwin.

Nassau County Executive Laura Curran was on hand to thank the LILAC group for the donations. Guo also gifted Curran a gift of a drawing depicting her as the subject of the "We Can Do It, Nassau" campaign logo.

The “We Can Do It, Nassau” campaign is a public awareness campaign promoting confidence in the United States vaccine effort, emphasizing themes of unity and patriotism, and the importance of vaccines to ensure schools return to normal and a strong economic recovery for the County. The campaign is a tribute to “Rosie The Riveter,” the cultural icon representing women who worked in factories and shipyards during World War II.
