What if Nate From 'Ted Lasso' Is Our Next Great Villain?

British. Gray-haired. Despises positivity.

These are all words that describe a perfect villain. And while Piers Morgan may be the first face to pop into your mind while reading them, they also, unfortunately, describe Nate by the end of Ted Lasso Season Two. For fans who have finished the new batch of eps (if you haven't, leave now—come back later), Nate's deep spiral into resentment was as abrupt as his transition to salt and pepper hair. And heading into Season Three (presumed to debut next summer), video producer Jason Gallagher has imagined the worst: what if Ted Lasso were Batman and Nate, his next great villain?


A new mock trailer, which hit the internet on Thursday, strips away all the positivity from Ted Lasso and replaces it with the gritty vibes of Gotham, placing Nate in the role of the imposing villain. And while no one is blowing up or getting killed (yet...), it's a good reminder that by the time Season Two was over, Nate was kind of fucked up. After proving to be an asset during in his first whole season as a permanent fixture on the coaching staff, he then felt like he wasn't getting enough recognition. He did what any good supervillain does in their origin story: kissed other people's girlfriends, started dressing in all black, and spit at the reflection of his own face while standing at a mirror.

(Of all those measurably bad actions, he really should stop spitting in mirrors because it's going to be some poor custodial worker who has to clean that up. Not cool, man.)

At the end of the season, we saw that he said, "Fuck you, Ted Lasso," packed his bags up, and is now coaching at West Ham, which was purchased by Rebecca's (Hannah Waddingham) ex-husband. It seems like next season might more closely follow Nate as he comes to realize that he thrives in positivity, not adversity, and that even if he does beat AFC Richmond, it's not going to erase the plight of negativity he holds in his heart. Or, you know, he could do what Bane did and blow up the whole pitch.

Anything can happen. Until Season Three comes out, now I'm going to be haunted by the idea that Nate is going to keep spitting on mirrors as he gets fitted for a face mask with a Bane voice changer. Believe.
