Nathan Wilson claims fourth Naperville City Council seat, receiving just 41 votes more than Meghna Bansal

After more than two weeks of waiting, Nathan “Nate” Wilson is the winner of the fourth open seat on the Naperville City Council.

The final vote-by-mail and provisional ballots from the April 4 consolidated election were counted this week in DuPage and Will counties, giving Wilson a 41-vote lead over candidate Meghna Bansal.

Results from the two counties show Wilson with 10,430 votes to Bansal’s 10,389.

The votes will become official Tuesday when they are canvassed.

Incumbent councilman Patrick Kelly received the highest vote total with 14,841 ballots, followed by newcomers Allison Longenbaugh with 14,422 and John McBroom with 13,162.

The remaining six council candidates each earned less than 10,000 votes.

Other elected positions in the Naperville area were more handily won on election night.

In the mayoral race, winner Scott Wehrli ended with 16,475 votes or 52% of the total vote to Benny White’s 14,433 votes, or 46%.

Tiffany Stephens earned 682 votes, which is 2% of the total.

Inauguration ceremonies for the mayor and council winners are scheduled for 1 p.m. April 30 at the Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle St.

The first meeting of the new City Council will be May 2.

NAPERVILLE PARK DISTRICT

Incumbent Rich Janor is returning to the Naperville Park Board, joining newcomers John Risvold and Christopher Jacks.

Election results from DuPage and Will counties show Janor with 16,538 votes, Risvold with 15,919 and Jacks with 15,129.

The fourth candidate Mahboube “Michelle” Haghighi ended with 12,268.

DISTRICT 203

The only other contested race in Naperville was in School District 203.

Incumbents Kristine Gericke and Joseph (Joe) Kozminski were returned to the board, joined by newcomer Melissa Kelley Black.

Gericke and Kozminski garnered 11,645 votes and 11,476 votes respectively and Black 9,346.

Of the two other candidates, Ronald Amato collected 7,832 votes and Gilbert Wagner 4,450.
