There’s a new football coach in town.

No, the Denver Broncos aren’t making a change, at least not yet. Nathaniel Hackett appears poised to finish out the team’s final five games of the year, but Colorado’s coaching landscape did have a big development this week.

Deion Sanders has left Jackson State to become the new head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, a development that has put CU at the center of transfer buzz. During his media availability on Wednesday, Hackett has asked about “Coach Prime” coming to Colorado.

“I congratulate him — what a great opportunity,” Hackett said. “What he did at Jackson State was unbelievable. It shows how good of a coach he is. I’m very excited for him and the state of Colorado to have him here.

“I met him one time when I was a kid. I remember that, but he probably wouldn’t remember that. It’s Primetime. He’s one of the best to ever play this game, and it’s great to have him here.”

Sanders won two Super Bowls during his NFL career before transitioning to media and later coaching. Football hasn’t been going well in Denver this year, but the future looks bright for nearby Boulder.
