Former Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett hired to Jets' coaching staff. The news has social media speculating whether Aaron Rodgers will join him.
Let the Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets trade rumors intensify now.
The trade talks between the Packers and Jets involving the Packers quarterback were already out there but they will get louder with Nathaniel Hackett set to become New York's new offensive coordinator. ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter was first to report the news Thursday.
Hackett was the Packers' offensive coordinator for three seasons until he took over the Denver Broncos' head coaching job last offseason. Hackett didn't last one season in Denver. He was fired with the team 4-11. The Broncos had the NFL's worst scoring offense (15.5 points per game at the time of his firing). At the time, there were questions whether Hackett and Rodgers could be reunited in Green Bay in 2023. That won't happen but could a Rodgers-Hackett partnership happen in New York instead as the Jets shuffled through quarterbacks in 2022?
Social media jumped all over the Hackett news and speculated whether Rodgers could join him. Then again, that's what also happened last offseason when people thought Rodgers would follow Hackett to Denver. Ultimately, the Packers signed Rodgers to an extension, and the Broncos traded for Russell Wilson. And of course, we all know where the Packers traded Brett Favre in 2008. In an interesting twist, Hackett will replace Jets offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur, the brother of Packers head coach Matt LaFleur. Mike LaFleur parted ways with the Jets at the end of their 7-10 season, which sparked its own speculation about whether the LaFleur brothers could team up in Green Bay.
A gift to sports-talk radio for days to come: New Jets’ OC Nathaniel Hackett has a lot of friends with the Packers, for whatever that is worth.
