Natick superintendent of schools one of three finalists for same job in Newton

NATICK Superintendent of Schools Anna Nolin is one of three finalists for the same position in Newton, according to the Newton Superintendent Search Committee, which announced its finalists on Monday.

Besides Nolin, other finalists are New Bedford Superintendent of Schools Thomas Anderson and Peter Light, superintendent for the Acton-Boxborough Regional School District.

"It's a very compelling district," Nolin said Monday, when reached by the Daily News. "I just want to see if it's a good fit for the last part of my career."

Nolin has been with Natick Public Schools for about 20 years.

She was appointed interim superintendent in April 2018 after former Superintendent of Schools Peter Sanchioni resigned. Nolin got the permanent job in January 2019, and her current contract runs through June 30, 2026.

Nolin previously served as assistant superintendent and was principal at the Wilson Middle School.

She is currently president of the New England Association of School Superintendents and also teaches courses on educational leadership for Boston College's Lynch School of Education and Human Development.

“On behalf of the Newton School Committee, I would like to thank the members of the search committee for the many hours they have devoted to reviewing community feedback, creating the profile of the desired candidate, participating in the initial screening process, and interviewing the semi-finalist candidates,” said Tamika Olszewski, Newton School Committee chair and co-chair of the Newton Superintendent Search Committee, in a statement. “The search committee, with its diversity of perspective, background and experience, has put forth excellent candidates for the full Newton School Committee to consider in this final phase of the search for a leader of our outstanding school district. We deeply appreciate their commitment to a thorough and meaningful process.”

It is not known when the School Committee will vote on a new superintendent. All three finalists will visit Newton schools for tours, meet-and-greets, virtual community forums and in-person interviews with the School Committee.

Nolin's visit and interview is scheduled for Feb. 15. She said her interest in the Newton job is not because she's been unhappy in Natick.

"I've been invested in Natick for 20 years," she said. "It's my second home."
