It's National Chicken Fried Steak Day. Here are the top 5 places to get it in OKC.

Yes, it's a thing.

It may not be among the holidays your phone automatically notes on its calendar, but that doesn't mean this southern dish isn't celebration-worthy. Part of the official Oklahoma state meal, chicken fried steak (CFS) has its own annual holiday, and this year we're marking it with our top picks for where to order the meal locally.

5. Ned's Starlite Lounge

Offering a self-described "retro cool dining experience," Ned's menu covers all the American-food classics, including burgers, southwestern chicken and, of course, CFS. This nostalgic eatery is located at 7301 N May Ave.

It also hosts live music!

4. Kendall's Restaurant

Although a bit of a drive from OKC, Kendall's Restaurant in Noble, Oklahloma makes our list for its iteration of this southern dish. The family-style restaurant even hosts an ongoing chicken-fry challenge, in which patrons have one hour to eat three chicken fried steaks, double orders of mashed potatoes and green beans, a biscuit, salad and two cinnamon rolls. Not often completed, the challenge costs $45, with winners receiving the meal for free and a free t-shirt.

The challenge was recently featured by Youtuber Joel Hansen. Kendall's is located at 100 S Main St., Noble.

3. Charleston's

Charleston's hand-breaded, flavorful CFS makes our list too. Part of Hal Smith's group of restaurants, Charleston's has locations throughout the OKC metro, including 224 Johnny Bench Dr. — the former Bricktown location of Kevin Durant's restaurant, KD's, which closed in 2016, just three weeks after his departure from the Thunder.

Cattleman's may have won awards for its steak, but its CFS is just as good. The restaurant, located at 1309 S. Agnew Ave., has received media attention for years, being featured in both Man vs. Food and Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives, as well as in Southern Living's guide "Off the Eaten Path."

1. Cheever's Cafe

You can't talk about local American food without mentioning Cheever's. The Cafe's CFS features a house-made jalapeno cream gravy! Cheever's art-deco building is located 2409 N Hudson Ave.
