National Chocolate Cake Day: Where to indulge in a treat in the Taunton area
When we have something to celebrate, that usually means cake is going to be involved in some fashion.
But why should we have to wait for a special occasion?
Why not just go ahead and have some cake?
Listen, Marie Antoinette never actually said “Let them eat cake,” but we’re saying it now.
Life can be hard, so enjoy some cake!
Luckily enough, there’s also a perfect day this month to go ahead and indulge: Jan. 27 is National Chocolate Cake Day.
The only thing better than regular cake is probably chocolate cake.
We rounded up a few places from around the Greater Taunton area, and one that’s a little bit of a ride, that are serving up all kinds of chocolate cake.
So grab a fork, bring your appetite, and get ready to celebrate National Chocolate Cake Day:
Fratelli’s Bakery & Cafe (Taunton)
Where: 1 Washington St.
Hours: Monday to Friday, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
On the menu: Fratelli’s has several Signature Cakes that are sure to entice anyone who’s looking for a chocolate cake that’s more elevated than standard fare. The bakery’s Signature Cakes include: Chocolate drizzled layer cake, a chocolate cake layered with white buttercream frosting and coated with chocolate ganache drip; chocolate layer cake, with chocolate traditional frosting, drizzled with chocolate ganache; an Oreo layer cake that’s chocolate cake layered with white buttercream frosting and Oreo cookie crumbles; a S’mores layer cake, which is chocolate cake layered with white buttercream frosting, graham cracker crumbles, marshmallows and chocolate chips, then drizzled with chocolate ganache; and a Snowball layer cake, fashioned after the famous snack, with moist chocolate cake, layered and coated in white buttercream frosting and shaved coconut.

Art’s International Bakery (Raynham)
Where: 104 Forge River Parkway
Hours: Monday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Tuesday to Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Sunday, from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
On the menu: At Art’s, you can get ready-made and custom cakes, with a variety of flavors and frostings. So order all the chocolatey combinations you like! They have ready-made cakes for all occasions, which can be customized, or you can call ahead for a fully-customized cake. Cake options are round, square, sheet, and shaped (even shaped like a christening gown or suit), as well as cupcakes. It’s all priced according to cake and design.

The Cake Diva (Raynham)
Where: 995 Broadway, #5 (Lucky Corner)
Hours: Tuesday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Closed Sunday and Monday
On the menu: Assorted cakes are available in display cases for walk-ins, or you can call ahead to reserve your favorites. To order a cake, contact owner June by stopping by or sending an email.
Grab a cup or a bread bowl: 12 Greater Taunton restaurants serving up soup for the soul
Battistini’s Bakery (Middleboro)
Where: 23 S. Main St.
Hours: Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Closed Monday to Friday
On the menu: Special order a chocolate cake, as they have a variety of cake and buttercream flavors available. There are cakes of all sizes too, from seven inches to a full sheet cake. The world is your oyster. Well, your cake, anyway.
Amazing Cakes (Lakeville)
Where: 54 Main St., #12
Hours: Tuesday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Closed Sunday and Monday
On the menu: Customize your cake, from six-inch round cakes to full sheet cakes. Pick your favorite frosting, flavor and filling, and concoct your own chocolate confection. For example, chocolate cake, chocolate fudge filling, and chocolate fudge frosting, for those of you who can’t get enough of a good thing. If placing an online order, call the bakery to confirm.

Gregg’s Restaurant (East Providence)
Where: 1940 Pawtucket Ave.
Hours: Sunday to Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
On the menu: If you like chocolate on chocolate on chocolate, take a little drive to East Providence, where you can grab a heaping slice of Gregg’s Death By Chocolate cake. This is the bigger, beefier (only in a metaphorical sense) version of their classic chocolate cake. It’s legendary for those who love it: six layers of their chocolate cake, sandwiched and covered with thick chocolate frosting, and covered with chocolate morsels. If you can’t get enough chocolate, this is the cake for you.
