Recent history of the Chiefs-Chargers rivalry suggests Sunday’s game could be decided by just a few points.

That also would be par for the course for the Chargers this season. Each of Los Angeles’ games has been decided by one score and their three losses have been by three points or fewer.

Who will win on Sunday? Here is who 73 national experts are predicting will win the game, which kicks off at 7:15 p.m. and airs on CBS (KCTV, Ch. 5) in Kansas City.

The Chiefs will win 29-20, says the Associated Press’ Rob Maaddi. Here is what he wrote: “The Chiefs (5-1) are winning despite a spotty offense thanks to a suddenly strong defense. Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Co. should get going against the Chargers (2-3).”

A 27-21 Chiefs victory is the call from the Los Angeles Times’ Sam Farmer. This is from his story: “The Chiefs aren’t as potent on offense as they’ve been in recent years, but their defense is significantly better. The Chargers have proven they can win at Kansas City, but not this time.”

A 27-24 Chiefs win is the prediction from the Sporting News’ Vinnie Iyer. This is an excerpt of his story: “The Chiefs’ offense hasn’t been as automatic this season with some red zone struggles while Patrick Mahomes is making more mistakes and fewer big pass plays than usual. But Kansas City is comfortable pivoting to more of a running team when Mahomes isn’t throwing often to Travis Kelce and the Chargers can get gashed by the power of Isiah Pacheco.”

Four of five writers at NFL.com picked the Chiefs to win: Ali Bhanpuri (26-21 final score), Tom Blair (30-28), Brooke Cersosimo (28-20) and Dan Parr (26-20). Taking the Chargers: Gennaro Filice (27-24). This is part of what Parr wrote: “The Chiefs are playing at home and will have nine days rest after winning last Thursday night, compared with five days rest for the Chargers coming off a Monday night loss. Andy Reid is 27-3 in his career when he has a four-plus-day rest advantage over the opposition. Advantage: Kansas City.”

Picking the Chiefs are all eight USA Today writers: Jarrett Bell (31-27), Chris Bumbaca (27-24), Nate Davis (27-23), Safid Deen (27-24), Tyler Dragon (28-21), Victoria Hernandez (27-20), Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz (28-20) and Lorenzo Reyes (30-20). Here is what Dragon wrote: “The Chargers have lost six games by three points or fewer since the start of last season, the second most in the NFL over that span. The Chiefs have won three in a row against the Chargers. Kansas City knows how to close games and Los Angeles doesn’t. The defending Super Bowl champions are well on their way to winning the AFC West for an eighth straight season.”

The 11 writers at the Athletic picked the Chiefs: Tashan Reed, Michael-Shawn Dugar, Ben Standig, Zack Rosenblatt, Austin Mock, Zac Jackson, Josh Kendall, Zak Keefer, Chad Graff, Larry Holder and Mark Kaboly. This is part of what Mock wrote: “I don’t love this matchup for the Chargers run defense as the Chiefs are a heavy Man/Duo run concept team — per FTN Data — and the Chargers are poor at defending it. If you’re going to struggle to slow down the run when playing the Chiefs, good luck keeping it close.”

Seven of eight writers at CBS Sports think the Chiefs will win: Pete Prisco, Jared Dubin, Dave Richard, Ryan Wilson, John Breech, Tyler Sullivan and Jamey Eisenberg. Picking LA: Will Brinson. Prisco sees a 34-27 final score. He wrote: “The Chargers are coming off a tough home loss to the Cowboys where Justin Herbert didn’t play that well. Now he faces a good Chiefs defense. Kansas City is coming off a Thursday night game, so they are rested. The Chargers pass defense has issues, so look for Patrick Mahomes to finally have his big day this season. Chiefs take it.”

All nine experts at ESPN see the Chiefs winning: Stephania Bell. Matt Bowen, Mike Clay, Dan Graziano, Kimberly Martin, Moses Moody, Jason Reid, Lindsey Thiry and Seth Wickersham.

The seven experts at Sports Illustrated are forecasting a Chiefs victory: Albert Breer, Mitch Goldich, Gilberto Manzano, Conor Orr, Matt Verderame, Claire Kuwana and John Pluym.

The Chiefs will win, say Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio (31-24 final score) and Chris Simms (28-21).

A Chiefs victory is the prediction from 10 SB Nation writers: JP Acosta, James Dator, Debbie Emery, Jeanna Kelly, Brandon Lee Gowton, Jared Mueller, Ricky O’Donnell, RJ Ochoa, Mark Schofield and Matt Warren.

The 10 members of the Dallas Morning-News picked the Chiefs: Tim Cowlishaw, Michael Gehlken, Joey Hayden, Dana Larson, Damon Marx, Craig Miller, David Moore, Newy Scruggs, Calvin Watkins and Kevin Sherrington.
