National Lobster Day: pizza, tacos, grilled cheese and more
When most out-of-staters think of New England their first thought is seafood — usually lobster to be exact. Living on the coast we are spoiled to have this fresh delicacy at our fingertips whenever the craving should hit.
There is no shortage of everyone’s favorite crustacean on the SouthCoast which makes National Lobster Day on Sept. 25 an easy day to celebrate.
Although lobster rolls are usually the star of the show, these savory morsels that taste like the ocean appear on menus in a variety of dishes. Here are some Greater New Bedford spots dishing up lobster any way you like it:
Lobster Pizza
Two fan favorites combine together for the ultimate dish. Head to Village Pizza and Ice Cream to get your Lobster Pizza, chunks of lobster meat, olive oil and garlic, light cheese and an Alfredo drizzle sold at market price. For a fall special, they are also serving up their lobster roll with garlic bread and onion rings or fries for $22.50 on Tuesdays through Thursdays. Located at 760 Main Road, South Westport.
Lobster Rangoon
Indulge in deep-fried wontons filled with lobster meat and cream cheese for $13 at Krave Restaurant and Bar. Lobster Fest is also on the menu on Wednesdays and Thursdays two for $50 meal includes a pitcher of sangria, lobster rangoon, and your choice of lobster mac and cheese or a lobster roll. Lobster Thermidor
Decadence at its finest can be found at The Black Whale when you order the Lobster Thermidor. Get this classic with seafood stuffing with shrimp, scallops, and fish with roasted potatoes, sautéed green beans topped with a creamy gruyere cognac sauce for $44. For a lighter option, they also have the Lobster Watermelon Salad with chilled lobster, arugula, feta, cucumber, red onions, and mint tossed in a tahini-lime dressing for $30.00. Lobster Stuffy Appetizer
Start your meal off right at Cove Surf and Turf with a unique stuffy appetizer. The Lobster Stuffy App has half of a lobster’s worth of pulled meat with homemade seafood stuffing made of fresh clams, lump crab meat, scallop pieces, tiny shrimp, and buttery, Ritz crackers for $15.99. It is piled into a lobster shell and served with melted butter and a lemon wedge. For a hearty dinner get the Filet Mignon Oscar, a half-pound of tender filet mignon grilled with a perfect blend of seasoning, topped with chunks of lobster and creamy béarnaise sauce served with asparagus spears for $29.99. Lobster Crab Cakes
Get a bite of the ocean with the Lobster Crab Cakes at Merrill's on the Waterfront. Get two delicious lobster-filled crab cakes with corn salsa and chipotle aioli for $17. Lobster Quesadillas are also on the menu made with cheddar jack, red onion, corn salsa, lime sour cream, and pico de gallo for $16. It all starts at 36 Homers Wharf, New Bedford.

Lobster Corn Tacos
Add Lobster Corn Tacos from Cork Wine and Tapas to your list of things to try. Made with claw and knuckle lobster meat, garlic lime roasted corn, cotija cheese, and cilantro served in warm flour tortillas for $27. It’s taco night at 90 Front St., New Bedford.
Lobster Grilled Cheese
There is nothing more comforting than grilled cheese, unless you add lobster of course. Get the Lobster Grilled Cheese at Moby Dick Brewing Co., 16 South Water St., New Bedford. Your sandwich comes with toasted white bread, American cheese, and lobster for $18. You can also add lobster to any of their salads for $10.
Lobster Bisque
It’s almost soup season and you have to check out the Lobster Bisque at Quahog Republic Whaler's Tavern. A bowl of warmth with a creamy base, the natural sweetness of the lobster, and a touch of sherry for $13 a cup and $22 a bowl. You can get it at 24 N Water St, New Bedford or it is sold commercially at a variety of stores.
Lobster Lettuce Wraps
For a lighter meal get the Lobster Lettuce Wraps at Bittersweet Farm, 438 Main Rd, Westport. Bite into fresh lobster salad in a bibb lettuce wrap with fresh summer slaw and sweet Asian chili sauce for $21. They also offer a Lobster Avocado Salad with mixed greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, sliced avocado, crisp bacon, fresh lobster salad topped with homemade avocado dressing, and grilled flatbread points for $26.

Lobster Flatbread
You can’t go wrong with ordering the Lobster Flatbread at Joes Original Kitchen + Bar. For $18 get fresh lobster, grilled corn, basil-marinated tomatoes, and fresh mozzarella loaded on a grilled flatbread. You could also try the Lobster Fettuccine, lobster meat in a lobster cream sauce with chili flakes, spinach, cherry tomatoes, and toasted focaccia for $28.00. Located at 61 State Road, Dartmouth.
