National Make Lunch Count Day: Grab a scrumptious bite at these Taunton area restaurants

You’re not skipping lunch again, are you?

While you should always take your lunch break, it’s especially important on April 13.

Why?

Because it’s National Make Lunch Count Day.

It might feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done, but neglecting yourself isn’t going to put any more time on the clock.

If breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and dinner is what’s waiting for us at the end of a long day, lunch is heroically bridging the long gap between those two meals.

So make lunch special.

To honor this normally humble repast, we’ve put together a list of five restaurants from around the Greater Taunton area offering lunch specials that will make your lunch break count:

El Mariachi, Taunton

43 Taunton Green

Hours: Sunday to Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Make lunch count: Make the most of your lunch by creating a combo! The Mariachi #2 and Mariachi #3 come with a choice of two or three, respectively: enchilada, burrito, chimichanga, chile relleno, tostada, tamale, or taco. Choose your filling: ground beef, shredded beef, shredded chicken, pork, or cheese. These all include rice and refried beans, and you can add sour cream or guacamole.

The chimichanga is just one of the lunch options available at El Mariachi, 43 Taunton Green, Taunton.

Make lunch count: Keep it classic with a turkey club, served with turkey, tomatoes, iceberg lettuce, bacon, mayo, and sharp cheddar cheese, on toasted peasant white bread. Or get the California turkey sandwich, with chipotle mayo and smashed avocado. All sandwiches are served with french fries or potato chips.

Grilla Greek Kouzina, Taunton

224 Broadway

Hours: Open seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Make lunch count: You can’t go wrong with a gyro for lunch. They all come with tzatziki sauce, tomatoes, onions, and special Grilla sauce. Choose between pork, chicken, steak tips, spinach and shrimp, zucchini fritters, and keftedakia (meatballs). Don’t forget the best part: each gyro is also filled with hand-cut, seasoned potatoes. Wash it all down with a nice Epsa soft drink; there’s no wrong choice, but the blood orange is great.
