National Pizza Day 2024: Get your Brooklyn pies here in Bucks County
Apparently, the internet has barely heard of the Brooklyn pie.
And yet, the style is high in demand at several pizzerias across Bucks County, who have been dishing out this pizza favorite for years.
So, in honor of National Pizza Day, which falls on Feb. 9, we’re giving the Brooklyn pie some overdue attention by breaking down what it is and isn’t, its different varieties and where in Bucks County you can find it.
What is Brooklyn pie?
Despite its local popularity, a simple Google search for “Brooklyn pie” comes up with several pages about its similarly named cousin, the very large and round Brooklyn-style pizza.
So, the trick is looking into its most traditional variation, known as the “grandma pie,” a square or rectangular pizza with a thin and crispy, golden-brown crust, typically topped with chunky tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, olive oil and basil.
There are several other notable variations of course, including the grandpa pie and the drunken Brooklyn.

Brooklyn Pie vs. Sicilian and Detroit-style pizzas
If you’re wondering what the difference is between Brooklyn Pie and other rectangular-shaped pizzas, like Sicilian and Detroit-style, it comes down to thickness.
Unlike Sicilian and Detroit-style pizzas, in which the dough is given time to rise, the Brooklyn pie waits for no one. After the dough has been stretched out onto the pan, it is immediately topped and baked right away, making for a much thinner, lighter crust.
