National Signing Day: Here are the Section V standouts headed to play college football
(The name of Irondequoit senior Azavier Ross was misspelled the first time this article was published.)
National Signing Day was Feb. 1 and high school football players plan to celebrate their commitments to colleges with family members, coaches, teammates and classmates in the coming weeks.
Players who receive an offer to play on scholarship at schools in the NCAA Division I and Division II levels have until April 1 or Aug. 1 to sign national letters of intent to join their future teams.
There are six college signing days, which are really signing windows, three in football alone. The big day for athletes in sports besides football and basketball was Nov. 9, opening a period to sign that closes Aug. 1.
The popularity of college football makes this signing period the one with the most hoopla.
Congrats to @Torance_Jr and @troubleman234 for signing their letter of intent to attend D1 Stonehill and D2 Lockhaven. @SchroederFtball @jjDandC @PrimetimeBall_ pic.twitter.com/Eltx15Cwuw

Here are high school players in Section V, who have announced they have signed, or in the case of Pittsford receiver Jackson Green, committed.
Green is headed to Princeton University which plays in the Ivy League and, like the rest of the conference, does not offer athletic scholarships.

The Webster Schroeder receiver is landing at Stonehill College, a school about half-hour south of Boston that has begun to move into the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision.
Washington was a candidate for the 2022 Democrat and Chronicle All-Greater Rochester Player of the Year.
Listed at 5 feet-11 inches and 175 pounds, Washington finished with 14 touchdowns and 1,019 receiving yards in 11 games, while producing some of Section V's most spectacular plays during the 2022 season.

The former McQuaid receiver/defensive back has committed to Seton Hill, a Division II team in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).
He was named to the 2021 AGR team then transferred to a school outside of Los Angeles for his senior year. The official Seton Hill University Football account said Collier is "a lockdown DB!" in a welcome tweet to him.
Lance Becoats
Proud of this Warrior! Lance will head to @LHU_Football next year. We will miss him a ton! Way to go!#WeAreWarriors | #signingday2023 pic.twitter.com/pdJ8Hu6oHZ

Lock Haven, which plays in the Division II PSAC, appears to have recruited the Webster Schroeder senior as an offensive lineman.
Becoats, who said he is 6-6 and 255 pounds with a 3.3 grade point average, played left tackle, defensive end and tight end for the Warriors.
Dekhari Carter
The University Prep linebacker/tight end was recruited by University of Charleston, a NCAA Division II school in West Viriginia, as an athlete. That usually means the team plans to find a spot for Carter to play but is unsure where he will fit in. He made 86 tackles, with 2 sacks and 4 for losses, last season for the Griffins.
Central Connecticut State 4-pack
Former University Prep receiver Jordan Jackson was the only player from Rochester on the roster of Central Connecticut State last season.
That is going to change in a large way after four AGR first-teamers committed to play with the Blue Devils in New Britain. Central Connecticut State is a Football Championship Subdivision team.
Tysheed Crockton: He will join the team as a receiver after he finished with 1,618 all-purpose yards last season at Canandaigua. He was named to the Class A all-state fifth team as a defensive back.
Jayden Ferrell: the Monroe defensive lineman, listed at 6-3 and 240 pounds, is the Section V Class B Defensive Player of the Year. He was named to all-state first team after he made 13.5 quarterback sacks and 17 tackles for a loss in seven games.
Chris Jean: Central Connecticut State coaches see the 2022 AGR Division I Player of the Year as a defensive back. The 5-10, 180-pound senior, who rushed for 11 touchdowns and 1,000 yards on 98 carries, originally committed to Gannon.
Karl Khuns: A dominant two-way lineman at Hilton, Khuns is expected to tackle ball carriers for the Blue Devils. Already 6-3, 285 pounds, he was named a all-state first team defensive lineman and Section V Class A1 Defensive Player of the Year.

The Hilton tight end is headed to Edinboro University, a PSAC member that plays in NCAA Division II. A two-year varsity member who also played defensive end, he is 6-3, 240 pounds and was selected as a first team Monroe County all-star by coaches in the league.
Timothy Hahn
Blessed to announce that I am committing to play football at Assumption University! I would like to thank all my coaches, family, and friends for the support through everything. @CoachCorc70 @FootballMcquaid @SteveDAnna1 @CSAPrepstarNY pic.twitter.com/NLq3ZfGqIA

McQuaid offensive lineman plans to play in the Northeast-10 Conference, in Division II. Assumption University is a private school in Worcester, Massachusetts. Hahn was a member of the 2022 Democrat and Chronicle All-Greater Rochester Football Team, voted on to the "Super 25" by coaches in Section V.
Aaron McDaniels
Three-year starter on the Aquinas offensive line has selected Stony Brook, a school on Long Island that plays in the NCAA Football Championship Series. He is listed as 6 feet-6 inches, 280 pounds, and primarily played at one of the tackle positions.
The Sea Wolves are trying to climb in the Colonial Athletic Association's football conference, with William & Mary, Richmond, Delaware, Villanova, SUNY at Albany, Maine among the 13 teams.
