Dereck Lively II: 7-foot-1 five-star center from Westtown School in Norristown, Pennsylvania … No. 1 player in state, No. 1 center in class and No. 2 recruit in class … verbally committed on Sept. 20, 2021
Jon Scheyer's take: “We’re excited to welcome Dereck and his family to Duke University. Dereck is coming off a terrific summer where his Team Final won the Peach Jam championship and he’s played at a high level at Westtown. Dereck fits the profile of a modern-day big man. He can run the floor, he can finish above the rim and he’s a great pick-and-roll player that can either pop or he can rim run and be a threat. The thing he does that is unique is he can really space behind the three-point line. On the defensive end, he’s elite. He’s the best shot blocker and rim protector in high school basketball and he can switch and guard one through five" (via school press release)
Dariq Whitehead: 6-foot-6 five-star small forward from Monteverde Academy in Florida … No. 2 player in state, No. 1 small forward in class and No. 5 recruit in class … verbally committed on Aug. 1, 2021
Scheyer's take: “Dariq is a big-time player who’s been battle tested during his time in high school. He’s played for Montverde since his eighth grade year with a lot of other special players and has played in big-time environments. That will really help prepare him for the transition to Duke. Dariq is someone that can guard multiple positions on the perimeter. He’s a great defender and athlete with great skill and feel for the game. Dariq really had a trust in us during the recruiting process. It’s an honor to welcome him and his family to Duke and we couldn’t be more excited to coach him" (via school press release)
Kyle Filipowski: 6-foot-11 five-star center from Wilbraham & Monson Academy in Massachusetts … No. 1 player in state, No. 2 center in class and No. 8 recruit in class … verbally committed on July 29, 2021
Scheyer's take: “I’m really excited to have Kyle and his family in our family. Kyle was the first in this class to announce he was coming to Duke, and his trust and belief really meant a lot to me and our staff. Kyle is 6-foot-11 but he has guard skills. He’s really versatile, is a big-time passer and playmaker and he’s one of the best rebounders in high school basketball. Kyle is someone that can play inside and out, can score in the post and can also shoot well beyond the three-point line. His toughness and versatility will make him a terrific player at Duke" (via school press release)
Jaden Schutt: 6-foot-5 four-star shooting guard from Yorkville Christian in Illinois … No. 2 player in state, No. 4 shooting guard in class and No. 56 recruit in class … verbally committed on Sept. 2, 2021
Scheyer's take: “Jaden is someone who has dedicated a lot of time and energy to his craft. He’s a terrific player and a premier shooter in this class. Jaden has great feel for the game and moves incredibly well without the ball, which not only opens up things for him but his teammates. He has championship pedigree on the AAU circuit, has played at a high level and is excited to play in this spotlight and on this stage at Duke. We couldn’t be more thrilled to have Jaden and his family with us and we can’t wait for him to get on campus" (via school press release)

New coach at the helm: How did Hubert Davis assemble UNC's basketball No. 8 overall recruiting class?
Welcome to the #CarolinaFamily 🙌@willshaver6@sethtrimble1@jalen_w13@abg_tnick5
— Carolina Basketball (@UNC_Basketball) November 11, 2021
Seth Trimble: 6-foot-3 four-star point guard from Menomonee Falls in Wisconsin … No. 1 player in state, No. 5 point guard in class and No. 34 recruit in class … verbally committed on June 23, 2021
Hubert Davis' take: "Seth is the fastest point guard in the country with the ball," says Davis. "He's the most athletic point guard, combo guard in the country. As good as he is, his ceiling is ridiculous. He's the best on-the-ball defender I saw as we evaluated the class of 2022. Seth can pick up full court and create havoc on the defensive end and with his athleticism and speed he is almost impossible to stop at driving the ball into the paint. He is a true point guard in that he loves to get people involved" (via school press release)
Jalen Washington: 6-foot-9 four-star center from West Side in Gary, Indiana … No. 2 player in state, No. 9 center in class and No. 41 recruit in class … verbally committed on July 9, 2021
Davis' take: "Jalen is the best shooting big in the country in this class," says Davis. "His touch from 12-15 feet in the mid-post is outstanding. I can't remember a guy who will be coming into college who is that skilled. He is athletic, has great size and is a good passer. I've talked about wanting versatile bigs who can score in the post and are excellent offensive rebounders, and he can also defend guards on the perimeter. That's what I want and we got the best one" (via school press release)
Tyler Nickel: 6-foot-8 four-star small forward from East Rockingham in Elkton, Virginia … No. 4 player in state, No. 23 small forward in class and No. 84 recruit in class … verbally committed on Sept. 15, 2021
Davis' take: "We knew we had to improve our shooting and Tyler's not only a great shooter but a tremendous all- around player at his size," says Davis. "He's a wing that is outstanding defensively and competes hard on both ends of the floor. He is built to play on the biggest stage. He desperately wants to be on the floor against the best players and teams in the country. His relentless work ethic and skill give him a chance to be one of the best wings ever to play at UNC. I'll never have to coach effort or motivate Tyler to play hard on every possession because the passion to play is built into his character" (via school press release)
Will Shaver: 6-foot-9 three-star center from Oak Mountain in Birmingham, Alabama … No. 2 player in state, No. 24 center in country and No. 145 recruit in class … verbally committed on June 2, 2021
Davis' take: "Will is a versatile big. He can consistently score in the post with either hand and can shoot it well from three. He is effective in pick and roll and pick and pop situations, and he loves to pass. He's a really good passer out of the post, so when teams have to double team him, because he can score, he has the ability to find open shooters all over the floor. He holds a special place for me because he was the first 2022 kid to commit. And he's from Alabama and we've had a couple of players from there in Pete Chilcutt and Garrison Brooks, who were pretty good players for us" (via school press release)

Shawn Phillips: 6-foot-10 three-star center from Dream City Christian School in Glendale, Arizona … No. 12 player in state, No. 25 center in class and No. 148 recruit in class … verbally committed on Sept. 22, 2021
Kevin Keatts' take: "Shawn is a physical presence on the floor. He has great size, but also is light on his feet. He is a mobile post player who can alter and block shots and be a capable rebounder for us. I think he can immediately come in and be a difference maker for us in rebounding, shot blocking and scoring in the low post. He was on our radar for a few years now and every year you could see that he had gotten better and added another layer to his game" (via school press release)

L.J. Thomas: 6-foot-2 three-star point guard from Bull City Prep Academy in Durham … No. 4 player in state, No. 24 point guard in class and No. 173 recruit in class … verbally committed on Oct. 6, 2021
Keatts' take: "LJ is a physical and tenacious guard. He plays with a lot of grit. He's great at controlling the pace of a game and he's very comfortable playing in a ball screen offense. I love the way he plays. He plays with a chip on his shoulder. He's going to come in and not back down from any player or any team. He's my type of player and I can't wait to get him into our program. He'll make us better the second he steps onto campus" (via school press release)
