Get your National Taco Day fix at these highest-rated restaurants in Oklahoma

National Taco Day is Oct. 4, and we care a lot about tacos in Oklahoma.

So much so that Oklahoma City was recently named the 12th best city in the nation for tacos, according to real estate data company Clever. Yelp just doubled down, calling Oklahoma City the No. 6 US Taco Town in 2023, based on cities with the highest amount of consumer searches for tacos.

For National Taco Day you might choose to stop by one of the many chain taco or Tex-Mex spots we've talked about recently.

Tacos 4 Life, 7311 SE 29 in Midwest City is offering up the chance to win an ultimate tailgating package. Visitors between now and Oct. 7 can check in via the app and fill out a form to be entered into a drawing for a tailgate package, including custom corn hole boards, a cooler, a canopy tent and a catering of Tacos 4 Life’s delicious tacos for up to 25 people.

Chuy's is also celebrating the day with $1 taco add-ons and tequila floaters. Guests can add a ground beef taco – crispy or soft – to any dine-in entrée or top their favorite rocks or frozen ‘rita with an extra pour of tequila for just $1. Plus, visit your local Chuy’s dressed like a taco and post a photo on social media with #ChuysTacoDay and in return you’ll receive a free, dine-in entrée of your choice. Chuy's has four Oklahoma locations at 13621 N Blackwelder Ave. in Oklahoma City, 760 North Interstate Drive in Norman and 8120 S Olympia Ave. or 10808 E 71 Street in Tulsa.

Dallas-based Velvet Taco, 13600 N Pennsylvania Ave.; 1440 W Lindsey Street in Norman; or 1444 S Peoria Ave. in Tulsa, will serve up it's Weekly Taco Feature Recipe Contest winner in honor of National Taco Day. The Welly Welly, is a play on beef wellington, featuring a Dijon glazed filet, mushroom duxelle, crispy prosciutto ham, red wine demi, and thyme puff pastry in a flour tortilla. It will be available through Oct. 10. Velvet Taco Day will also give guests a chance to win a Velvet Taco party pack and margaritas via Instagram on National Taco Day.

If those chains aren't quite what you're looking for, perhaps you can try one of the Oklahoma spots just named to Yelp's Top 100 Taco Spots in the US. Three restaurants from across the state made the list, based on total volume and ratings of reviews.

1. 918 Maples Tacos & Cantina, 317 S Trenton Ave. in Tulsa

Yelp list ranking: 32

With a 4.9 star average rating, 918 Maples is the top Oklahoma restaurant to make the Yelp list. Head in for fish or birria tacos and any of a number of margarita varieties.

Hours: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday

2. Taco Nation, 1741 Wheeler Street

Yelp list ranking: 57

Taco Nation began as a a food bus, eventually transitioning to a brick-and-mortar offering a variety of signature tacos such as The Okie, Surf N' Turf, and Artichoke among others. A selection of refreshing alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are also available.

Hours: 11a. m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday

3. Sandy's Tacos, 1902 N Grand Ave. in Enid

Yelp list ranking: 100

A small spot in Enid selling birria tacos, street tacos and more, Sandy's has earned a 4.8 rating on Yelp with customers raving about the food and fresh made drinks - horchata and other aguas frescas. Sandy's has been looking to expand since last year when a plan to move to a new location fell through, but loyal customers don't mind the quaint space.

Hours: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday
