ROCHESTER — Representatives from the Rochester Elks Lodge No. 1393 traveled to the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton to present a $1,000 donation Aug. 26. This grant was made possible through a Freedom Grant awarded to the Lodge by the Elks National Foundation.

The money will be used by the home to enhance the health and well being of the resident veterans by providing them with special birthday celebrations, arts and craft projects, entertainers, trips to sporting events, concerts, plays and museum trips as well as a variety of dining experiences both at the home and off site.

During the presentation, the Rochester members were also able to have a short visit with Vets Home resident and Rochester Elks member Norman Sanborn Sr. He is a past recipient of the NH State Elks Veteran Volunteer of the Year Award.

National Thank a Police Officer Day approaching

ROCHESTER — There is still time to show your appreciation for the Rochester Police Department, as National Thank a Police Officer Day approaches on Sept. 16.

The volunteer-run nonprofit, Thank a Rochester Cop, would like to remind the community about three locations with supplies available to help “paint the city blue” during the month of September. Residents and businesses can pick up decorations, signs, light bulbs, and light strings from Holy Rosary Credit Union (Brock Street), the Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce (South Main Street), and Granite Steak & Grill (Route 11). These supplies are available free of charge, but donations are gratefully accepted.

In addition to decorating, community members and children are encouraged to show their support for the Rochester Police Department by writing a thank you note to officers. There are multiple designated thank you card stations located throughout the city. In addition to the three supply locations, thank you cards can also be found at: Potter’s House Bakery & Café, the cafeteria at Frisbie Memorial Hospital, the Rochester Public Library, and the Community Center (Wakefield Street side entrance). Members of the Thank a Rochester Cop nonprofit will deliver all thank you cards on Sept. 16.

A special appreciation event for Rochester Police Department staff and their families will be held on Sept. 16. This year’s event is underwritten by Profile Bank.
